World Bathing Day

Sat, 22/06/2019 - 8:00am to 6:00pm

Victoria’s two commercial hot springs and two prospective destinations have joined to promote World Bathing Day on Saturday June 22, collectively raising awareness of bathing's health and cultural importance worldwide.

Participating hot springs include highly successful wellness tourism attraction Peninsula Hot Springs on the Mornington Peninsula, newly-renovated Deep Blue Hot Springs in Warnambool; Saltwater Springs at Phillip Island, where work has commenced, and; planned Metung Hot Springs in Gippsland.

“Bathing is an enjoyable, peaceful, social, multicultural and multigenerational activity that spans cultures, as well as spiritual and religious traditions, and plays a critical role in maintaining human health, comfort and dignity,” said Chair of Bathe the World Foundation, Professor Marc Cohen.

Peninsula Hot Springs events on the day include: sunrise and sunset hilltop didgeridoo ceremonies; yoga; body clay workshops; Moroccan, Turkish and Japanese bathing workshops; mind-body classes; sound bathing, Nordic sauna; Chinese-inspired reflexology walk; Japanese 'forest bathing', and; live music.

"In creating events and experiences around this year's World Bathing Day Peninsula Hot Springs has sought to celebrate the importance of hot springs bathing to all cultures over all time," said Director of Bathe the World Foundation and founder of Peninsula Hot Springs, Charles Davidson.

Deep Blue Bath House and Day Spa is offering discounted entries to its Bath House from 8am to 6pm, also hosting a mini expo providing opportunity for guests to learn more about the new thermal bathing facility expansions at Deep Blue Hot Springs, set to open later this year. A model of the springs buildings and facilities will be on display and staff will be available to offer information and answer questions.

Sunrise Yoga is planned at the site of Phillip Island's Saltwater Springs, followed by a tree planting celebration, lunch and a cliff top saltwater bathing experience. At the site of Metung Hot Springs there will be sunrise Pilates by the lagoon, coastal banksia tree planting, splashing in the cold saltwater lake and sunset bathing in temporary hot pools on the escarpment.
